A new study conducted by Joana Volk investigates the claim that inflammasome signalling regulates colonic mucus barrier formation. Joana’s work shows that, on the contrary, inflammasomes seem to be completely dispensable for mucus barrier formation and functoin; however, she does identify some new interesting correlations between elements of the microbiota and mucus barrier properties.
